ABOUT ME
I’m Mahak Rouhina, an Iranian graphic designer and artist based in Toronto. I’m drawn to the ways images, patterns, and symbols carry stories across time and cultures. My work spans brand identity, commercial design, editorial design, and visual communication, with a focus on cultural, academic, and creative projects.
With an MA in Art History from the University of Toronto, I bring a research-driven perspective to my work. I’m particularly interested in historical motifs, patterns, and visual traditions from different cultures and periods, and in exploring how they can find new meaning in contemporary design. I often draw on archival materials and historical references, reinterpreting them for new contexts while remaining attentive to their origins and cultural significance.
Over the years, I’ve collaborated with organizations including Encyclopaedia Iranica, the Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies, the University of Toronto, and eCampusOntario. These collaborations have allowed me to bring research, visual storytelling, and design together across a range of cultural and academic projects.
Alongside my design practice, I continue to explore my interests through art, research, exhibitions, and writing. My artistic work has received recognition at national and international art festivals, and my research interests extend to published writing on historical motifs and patterns. These experiences continue to inform my approach to visual storytelling and contemporary design.
Whether you’re looking to develop a distinctive brand identity or collaborate on a creative project, I’d love to hear from you.
